Update 14- Last Day of my 30 day goal Experiment

this experiment really showed me the importance of setting short term goals. We all have those long term goals we desire to meet but the truth is we can’t just complete those big goal in just a few days, we have to set smaller goal for ourselves so we can take  the proper steps needed to meet that larger goal. I will continue my 30 day experiment goal and when I’m finished I will set a new short term goal for my business so I can continue developing it. One day I will open my own salon and ill understand that it was because of my short term goals that allowed me to get there. I truly see myself using short term goal setting in all aspects of my life

Update 13- Encouragement from Richard Pryor's Daughter

Yesterday I attended a screening of Rain Pryor's new documentary movie “That Daughter's Crazy". Rain Pryor is the daughter of famous comedian, Richard Pryor and throughout her movie she discussed what is was like growing up as a black and Jewish girl. After her screening she talk to the audience more about her life growing up and issues she faces while trying to create a name for herself. in one incident, her talk about the struggle of having a big curl afro growing up and how her had to learn to except herself even though people told her otherwise. 

The words she said really stuck to me because so many years have African American hair has been looked down upon. being and African American myself, people have told me over and over that I shouldn’t focus my attention to much on learning to do African American hair because "you can’t really make a career out of that", but I know the truth and I know the importance of teaching other like me that they can embrace their fros and be proud about the hair they were blessed with. I know I grew up in a predominately white community with little to no black hair salons but I want to make a change. I have already started and I hope to continue.

Update 12- Website time!!!

I HAVE FINALLY GOT TO MY WEBSITE STARTED!!!

So if you read update #10 I mentioned how after I finished my card my main concern was that I couldn’t get the URL I wanted. Well after a lot of searching and account making on various wed design site, I found one. I use Webs.com and when I typed Hairstylesbybre.web.com in as my URL is said AVAILABLE 

(HAPPIEST DAY ON MY LIFE)

So far I’ve gotten a few of my style information on a tab and I have a few photos. Sadly I’m not done, but I feel like I’ve got a good start especially knowing that I got the URL I wanted.

I’m not sure if I will finish my website by the end of my 30 days but I definitely know I will continue working on it so I can keep developing my business. 

Update 11- Wonderful News

 I know this was not a part of my goal but I wasn’t able to work on anything today because of the MBS meeting I had to attend. Being an entrepreneur is something I am very proud of so when I got accepted I really began reminiscing on how far I’ve come on my path to establish my own business. As I reminisced I was very glad that I choose the goal that I did because it helping me improve my business. For month I have been talking about making a card and creating a website and not I’m really getting things done.

Update 10- The Final Results

Over all, I am very pleased with my card. I think this will be a big benefit for me when it comes to getting my information out to people quickly.

Now that I’ve made the card my biggest concern is making sure I get the website URL I put on the card. I actually have already tried StylesByBre.com but the name is already takes so I typed this one on the card for now. Hopefully is available

Update 9 - I picked a design

 In total I went through about 15 different designs and I like this one the best I might make a few more changes my focus tomorrow is to work on the back of the card

Update 8- Children Hairstyle (part 2)

I did another little girl's hair today. 

I think letting the children pick their cornrow styles make the process of getting their hair some much better. their reaction when i come in  is so precious and it make me a their hairstylist very happy. Especially when they tell me that love when i do their hair.

Update 7 - Children Hairstyles

Most of my clients are college student but another large portion of them are children. Since I made it my goal to practice on new style I tried to start letting my clients that are children pick their own hairstyles. Of course I have some guidelines because I know children like to pick the most extravagant hair style to wear to school and at the same time I know their parents don’t want that. Typically I just do simple cornrows so to make it more special to them I let them pick.

Update 6 - Sleep it such a precious thing

So it’s been approximately 3days since I’ve posted, so let me give you an overview of what’s happened. October 10-13 I was on Break and I initially had plan to spend those days working on my goal. I decided since I could pick a good card I would just give up working on my card and just start on my website.

 well, the first day I sat on my couch for a good 20 min talking with my big sis and  all of a sudden it hit me..."I’ve lost a lot of sleep this past few weeks" so I dosed and said to myself "I’ll do it later" off and when I woke up it was 12am. the next day I put it off again and then on the third day I just totally forgot about it so all in all I wish I did work on my website but I didn't .. SORRY!

Update 5: Trying to find the perfect card

When I am designing a business card, I want it to represent me. I want to be proud to give my card to someone and I want them to be happy to a well design card. (Not saying everyone jumps for joy when they receive a business card) 

Today I have been working on another card because I did not like the first one. It just seemed like a simple black card with white writing...

This is what I came up with but I’m still not satisfied...it has too much white space

Update #4 "Business Cards"

Update #3 Setting New Goals

It’s October 4th, 2015 and as I mentioned in my last blog I have started considering new idea to make my goal more challenging. After a lot of thinking I returned to the instruction packet and reviewed the goal outline questions.

a.       What goal did you choose?

b.      Why do you want to accomplish this goal?

c.       How will accomplishing this goal change your life?

d.      How can this goal be accomplished in 30 days?

New Goal:

A) By goal is to better my business by creating business cards, a web site and making my hairstyles list more versatile

B) I want to accomplish this goal I can promote myself to new potential customers and overall better my business

C) This goal will allow me to develop my business, gain more clients,

D) Complete one task COMPLETELY at a time

- Business Cards

- Website

- Add additional hairstyles

- Keep Business information organized

Update #2 "One Style down "

It is October 2, 2015. thus far i  have researched some potential new styles and have add one
crochet box braids

Crochet Box braid just recently came out and I personally thought it was a very customer convenient style because most of my client are college students and younger woman who work and though they want their hair done they  also don't have all the time in the world. So, getting crochet box braid which only take me 2 hours to do vs single box braids, which can take up to 7 hours.

After getting one "new" style by the second day I started thinking about what else I could do to add to my goal

Update #1 "The 30 day Hairstyle challenge (Day 1)"

For this 30 day Challenge my overall goal is to add additional styles to my list of hairstyles for my clients. I have been doing hair for a while I realize that there are always new hairdos coming out so I what to challenge myself to learn some of those.
